Breton Open House 2012

We perfectly know how important it is nowadays to be competitive, to make the most of the challenges the ever-demanding market throws down each day.

To do so, it's essential to use modern high-tech production systems, and keep constantly up-to-date with the latest technological developments.
It will therefore be an honour for me to welcome you on the 5th, 6th and 7th of July to show you some of the latest, interesting innovations in our works, with machining cells running specific applications for the aerospace, energy, automotive and transmission sectors. 16 installations, each with a high level of customization and the most innovative, efficient accessories.
For me, and the rest of the Breton staff, it will be a pleasure to welcome you.
Best regards
Luca Toncelli
President of Breton Spa

Don't miss:
Special materials such as carbon, resins, and fibres require specifically configured machines like the EAGLE range of machining centres, examples of which will be on show with fully-functional machines and detailed structural views.

The XCEEDER 900RT 5-axis trochoidal machines also offer a solution for increasing productivity and reducing consumption.

The reduction in setup times makes all the difference. You won’t believe how fast it is to change pallets on the FLYMILL gantries, the compact XCEEDER 900 RT, or how efficient it is to change the tool automatically on the ULTRIX 800 RT lathe-milling machine.

Not only is there a reduction in setup times, but also an exceptional increase in part accuracy and flexibility as on the MAXIMA 2000 K60, the big 5-axis turn-mill gantry.

There have been new breakthroughs in the machining of gears and transmissions, thanks to the new Breton technological packages, which you'll be able to see at work on 2 ULTRIX 1000 RT machines.

What's more, we'll be presenting the new version of our best seller, the MATRIX machine, a true evolution in design and performance.

Breton automation - We make the Difference

With its exchange systems of differently sized pallets, Breton opens new pathways for complementing its 5-axes high-speed machines.
Increase in productivity is ensured by customized pallet exchange systems handling weights up to 1.000 kg (pallet included) and additional tool magazines with 30, 60 or 150 cells.
2-position pallet exchange system composed of a CNC controlled single-fork exchanger with pallet clamping device (diameter of 1.000 mm) (capacity: 1.000 kg).

Automatic 5-position 700 mm Ø pallet exchange system, without clamping jaws and composed of a pallet handler/exchanger, loding/unloading station and five pallets. For more info click here >>
Automatic 2-position 800x800 mm pallet exchange system, composed of a CNC controlled pallet handler/exchanger with double clamping device and capacity of 800 kg.
Automatic piece exchanger through anthropomorphic robot with 2-position pick-up tongs.

Blisk machining on Breton Xceeder 900 RT high performances machining centres

Xceeder 900 RT
Blisk is a titanium or inconel aero engine part used in the cold section. In the past blisks was made with many single blades locked in a rotor shaft, but today the new trend is to have the blisk made in only one part.
For this purpose customers need machines tools more sophisticated and efficient to have the maximum reduction of production time. In this case  the blisk milling process start from a titanium  blank with  diameter of 620 mm, thickness of 130 mm, 19 blades of 180mm height. The single blade thickness vary from 2 mm at the end  to 4 mm at the centre.
Breton goal was to define tooling and technology to work the blisk in only one set-up cutting down the actual total working time.

The blisk is machined with Breton Xceeder 900 RT, 5 axes high speed vertical milling center with direct drive rotary tilting table with X,Y,Z stroke of 900x900x600 mm rapid axes up to 60m/min and electrospindle of 40 kW continuous power, 137Nm torque and 18000 rpm.
The toling is studied to accept different kind of blisks and with only one locking procedure the operator can clamp the piece with the right preload.
Roughing phase  is obtained with two different strategies: at the first the machine open the cavities with  three axes step plonging strategy and than it take away the rest material with three axes step contouring.

Semi-finishing and finishing blade and bottom phases are realized with continuous five axes strategy.
Breton for these applications has developed also a special software to measure in process blade’s dimensional and geometrical parameters and it is capable with the measuring result to adjust the final working cycle  to obtain the blade in the defined tolerances.
The final result is that Breton with its machine and technology has saved the 23.8 % of the total working time.
